Long-Term Big Green Egg Cart Experience
Share
I’ve been cooking on a Big Green Egg for quite a while, and over the years I’ve tried a few different setups — the basic nest, a small side table setup, and even considered building a wooden table for it. After using this stainless steel cart, I can honestly say it feels like one of the more practical upgrades you can make if you use your Egg regularly.
The first thing I noticed is the stability. A Big Green Egg is not a light grill, and once you have it sitting in a cart, stability matters a lot. When I’m opening the dome, checking ribs, moving a cast iron pan, or pulling a full brisket off the grate, I don’t want the whole setup to feel shaky. This cart feels solid. The Egg sits securely in the center, and the frame gives it a much more planted feel than a basic nest. With the wheels locked, it does not feel like it wants to move around while cooking. That is a big deal, especially when you are dealing with high heat, heavy ceramic, and food you have spent hours cooking.
The mobility is another major plus. I used to think I did not need wheels that much, but once you have a heavier outdoor cooking setup, you realize how useful they are. Sometimes I want the Egg closer to the patio table. Sometimes I want to move it away from the house when I’m doing a hotter cook. Sometimes I just need to clean the area underneath. This cart makes that much easier. It is heavy enough to feel secure, but still easy enough to move around on a flat patio. The locking casters are important here. Once they are locked, the cart feels like a cooking station, not just a rolling stand.
Storage is probably where this cart really separates itself from a basic nest. Anyone who owns a Big Green Egg knows the accessories pile up fast. Charcoal, fire starters, gloves, ash tool, plate setter or convEGGtor, drip pans, wood chunks, grill brushes, thermometers, seasoning, tongs — it never ends. With a basic nest, most of that stuff ends up on the ground, in a plastic bin, or back inside the garage. This cart gives everything a more organized home. The lower storage and cabinet-style layout make the whole grill area look cleaner and more intentional. It feels less like a grill sitting on the patio and more like a compact outdoor kitchen station.
The prep space is also a big improvement. One thing I never liked about the basic nest setup is that you always need somewhere to put a tray, a cutting board, a beer, a thermometer, or your gloves. The stainless side surfaces give you usable workspace right next to the Egg. That changes the cooking experience more than I expected. When I’m doing burgers or steaks, I can have the raw tray on one side and the finished tray on the other. For longer cooks, I can keep tools and seasoning nearby without constantly running back into the kitchen. It just makes the entire process smoother.
Compared with a wooden table, this stainless cart feels more practical for my use. I like the look of wood, and a well-built wood table can be beautiful, but wood takes more maintenance. It can stain, crack, fade, absorb grease, or need refinishing over time. Around charcoal, ash, grease, rain, and sun, stainless steel just makes more sense if you want something easier to clean. After a cook, I can wipe the surface down quickly, brush off ash, and not worry as much about moisture or sauce marks. A wooden table may look warmer, but stainless feels more durable and lower-maintenance for year-round outdoor use.
Compared with the standard Big Green Egg Nest, this is a much bigger upgrade. The nest is simple and gets the job done, but it is basically just a stand. It does not give you much workspace, and it does not solve storage. For people who only cook occasionally, the nest may be enough. But if you use your Egg often, especially for longer cooks or weekend gatherings, the cart makes the Egg feel much more complete. You are not just holding the grill anymore; you are creating a real cooking area.
Compared with some of the lighter metal carts I’ve seen, the biggest difference is how heavy-duty this one feels. With a ceramic grill, that would make me nervous. This one gives me more confidence because the Egg feels centered and supported. The stainless top also feels like a proper work surface, not just a decorative cover. For a grill this heavy and expensive, I would rather have something that feels overbuilt than something barely strong enough.
One small downside is that stainless steel does show fingerprints, water spots, and grease marks more easily than a wooden table. It is very easy to wipe clean, so it is not a serious problem, but if you like everything looking spotless all the time, you may find yourself cleaning the surface more often. I also wish one side had a little more dedicated space for hanging tools or holding smaller accessories, but overall the storage is still much better than a basic nest.
Assembly was easier than I expected. For a cart this size, I assumed it might be a frustrating project, but two people were able to put it together in about 30 minutes. The instructions were clear, and the parts lined up well. I would definitely recommend having a second person help, not because it is complicated, but because the panels and frame are easier to manage with two sets of hands. Once assembled, it felt square, solid, and ready to use.
One small thing I also appreciate is how much cleaner the cooking area looks now. Before, my Egg setup always had accessories sitting around it. A bag of lump charcoal would be leaning against the wall, tools would be on a nearby table, and the area looked messy after every cook. With this cart, the setup looks much more organized. It makes the Egg look like it belongs there, almost like a built-in outdoor kitchen, but without the cost or commitment of building one.
Overall, I would say this cart is best for someone who uses their Big Green Egg regularly and wants more than a basic stand. If you only grill a few times a year, a simple nest might be enough. But if you cook often, entertain guests, do long smoking sessions, or just want a cleaner and more useful patio setup, this kind of stainless steel cart makes a lot of sense. The biggest advantages are stability, storage, prep space, easy cleaning, and mobility. It takes the Big Green Egg from being just a grill on a stand to being a complete backyard cooking station.
For me, the biggest takeaway is simple: it makes cooking on the Egg easier and more enjoyable. Everything is more organized, the grill feels secure, I have room to work, and I can move the whole setup when needed. After using it, I would have a hard time going back to a basic nest.
